Kids Cooking in the Merc Kitchen
taught by the Merc's Hilary Kass & Nancy O'Connor
for kids ages 8-12
Hilary and Nancy will take our group on a tour of the Merc where we'll buy ingredients to eat and cook. Back in the Community Room we'll cover some basic nutrition information, then learn how to prepare (and eat!) Fresh Fruit Smoothies; Bean, Cheese and Veggie Quesadillas; and No Bake Peanut Butter Cookies. Each class participant will bring home quesadillas and cookies for their families to share. Limited to ten participants. $10 per child.

Thursday, July 14, 7-9pm
Monsoon Wedding
taught by Debjani Bhaduri
This class will feature some of the traditional Bengali dishes served in my wedding. This sumptuous feast begins with Luchi (a traditional flat bread), followed by Aloordum (potatoes coated with fragrant sauce), Kumror-chencki (butternut squash with onions and mustard seeds), Macher Kalia (tilapia fillets and cauliflower florets cooked with aromatic spices), and Payesh (sweet potato pudding). Recipes use minimal oil and unique combinations of spices and can be cooked in a few quick and simple steps. Come and enjoy a typical Bengali wedding dinner. $15 per person, $13 for co-op members & seniors.

Seniors in the Merc Kitchen
taught by Hilary Kass, Merc Nutrition Educator
Seniors - cool off in the Merc kitchen and learn several simple healthy meal ideas specially designed for one or two eaters. You'll watch as we prepare Turkey Melon Roll-ups, Cool Cucumber Soup and breakfast and snack ideas. Come hungry and enjoy a light meal. $10 per person.

Teens Cooking in the Merc Kitchen

for kids ages 13 and up
Teens - come into the Merc kitchen for some cool summer hands-on cooking. Learn the basics of a healthy diet while whipping up some great food. We'll prepare Rice Burgers, Zucchini Fritters, Pineapple Sorbet and more. You'll be able to dazzle your family and friends with these yummy and healthy recipes. Come hungry! $10 per person.

Wednesday, July 20, 7-9pm
Delightful Macrobiotic Summer Dishes
taught by Guita Aghdaie
Enjoy Italian Antipasto and Vegetable Aspic & Quinoa Salad, both of which bring flavor and color to your table and strength and enjoyment to your body. We'll top off our meal with Fruit Parfait with Vegan Whipped Cream. $15 per person, $13 for co-op members & seniors.

Saturday, July 30, 2-4pm
Sweet Nothings - Indian Desserts Fit for a King
taught by Ravi Phull
Satisfy your royal taste buds with sumptuous Gulab Jamans (think of donut holes in a light syrup), together with Kheer (creamy rice pudding). Learn how to transform humble vermicelli into a heavenly dessert which also possesses medical qualities. $15 per person, $13 for co-op members & seniors.
